The density of manganese is 7.43g/cm³, the melting point is 1245°C, and the boiling point is 2150°C. Manganese has a great affinity with oxygen, and they can react with each other to form stable manganese oxide. In addition, ferromanganese, as an additive of alloying elements, can enhance the hardness, ductility, toughness and wear resistance of steel. It has been widely used in alloy steel such as structural steel, tool steel, stainless heat-resistant steel, and wear-resistant steel. Manganese can also remove sulfur and reduce the harmful effect of sulfur.
